Puppies and Babies

Our daughter has been experiencing the worry of motherhood….kinda…sorta. She and her hubby adopted a sweet female lab named Angel. Each day they take her to the dog park for about a half an hour. But the other day Angel collapsed at the park. They had to carry her to the car, but within the hour she was back to her old self. At the vet they ran a slew of tests, and nothing was detected. They suspect it is a condition some labs have, where they can overexert themselves to such a point.

As for my daughter, she was in tears and worry over her *baby*. It reminded me of the early days of my marriage, when my husband and I had no children, and my sister and her hubby didn’t have kids yet either. Our puppies were our babies…loved, coddled, and showered with attention.

Of course we continued to love the pooches after the kids came, but they were no longer the focus of our attention.

But things have changed around our house. Our *babies* (the human kind) have grown up and next month one will turn 27 and the other 30. They live far away, and while we speak to them frequently on the phone, we unfortunately are unable to see them very often.

This past November we brought a puppy into our home…Lady. She is our new baby, and she and our cat, Spooky, are now the kids around this house.
