Puppy for the Empty Nest

Before our kids were born our beloved Pepper, a little poodle-mix, was our "child". She began taking second fiddle after Scott, and then Elizabeth was born. We still loved her, but she was no longer our "baby" in the same way.

I find myself reverting. I didn't even realize I might have empty nest syndrome until a puppy came into our home in November. (Our last dog had died about 8 years ago.)

While I adore our cat, Spooky, who has been with us for about 3 years, cats will only tolerate so much "love". And Spooky is a pretty self-sufficient guy, for an indoor cat.

Well, I have a new "baby" and a couple times I actually slipped...and called her by our daugher's name! YIKES! Please...don't tell Elizabeth. I don't think she would be flattered.

Mothers and Happiness

Last night I was watching the Hallmark special “Loving Leah”. There was a line in the movie that really struck home. It was a line delivered by Leah’s mother:

“A mother is only as happy as her saddest child.”

Not sure who originally coined that phrase…yet those simple words pretty much sum up the essence of motherhood.

Motherhood, a book of poems

If you have stopped by this blog for the first time, take a moment to check out some of the poems in the book Motherhood. Motherhood is a book of simple poems, expressing the feelings of a parent raising small children.

I started writing the poems when my children were in pre-school. Today, they are young adults and both were recently married.

Our daughter, Elizabeth, is a professional graphic artist and she designed Motherhood, and created the artwork within its pages.

Motherhood makes a nice gift for a mother of any age. You can order it online and it will be mailed directly to you.

Thanks for stopping by!
